For New and Existing Users: Download the Capital Bikeshare App: Begin by downloading the Capital Bikeshare app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Alternatively, you can visit the Capital Bikeshare website for information and rentals. Create an Account or Log In: If you're a new user, sign up for an account by entering your email address, creating a password, and providing your payment details. If you're already a member, simply log in with your email and password to access your bike rental history and account settings. Locate a Bike Station: Open the app and use the interactive map to find nearby bike stations. The app will show real-time availability of bikes and docking spaces at each station, so you can easily find a bike. You can also see if there are electric bikes (e-bikes) available, which provide an extra boost for your ride. Select Your Bike: Once you arrive at a station, use the app to select a bike. The app will give you an option to unlock the bike through a QR code or bike number. If you’re at a physical bike station, you can also use the self-service kiosk to rent a bike directly. Start Your Ride: After unlocking the bike, check the bike for any issues (like flat tires or damaged parts) and ensure it’s in good condition before you ride. You can then begin your ride. The app will keep track of how long you’ve been using the bike and how far you’ve traveled. Track Your Rental: The app will show you the current time of your ride, allowing you to keep track of how long you’ve been renting the bike. It also tracks your route and distance traveled, so you can see your progress in real-time. Drop Off Your Bike: When you’re ready to end your ride, you can drop off the bike at any Capital Bikeshare station. The app will show you the closest stations with available docking spaces. To dock the bike, place it securely into one of the docking stations, and the system will automatically register the bike as returned. Confirm Return and End Ride: The app will confirm that the bike has been returned properly, and your ride will be officially ended. Capital Bikeshare will charge you based on the rental time (with the first 30 minutes usually free, and then a small fee for additional time). You can check the total charges and payment summary in the app. Check Your Ride History: After your ride, you can view your ride history, which includes the time, distance, and cost of each trip, directly through the app. This feature is useful for tracking how often you use the service or if you need to review your rental details for any reason. Extend Your Ride: If you need more time with the bike, you can use the app to extend your ride and avoid extra fees by returning the bike before the end of your rental time. Manage Your Account: Through the app, you can manage your payment details, membership plan, and notifications. You can also upgrade your membership for unlimited monthly rides or purchase a daily pass for short-term use. Explore Other Services: Capital Bikeshare also offers group rentals and long-term passes for frequent riders. If you plan to use the service regularly, you can sign up for a monthly or annual membership. Earn Rewards: Some locations may offer loyalty programs or rewards for frequent riders. Keep an eye on any promotions or bonuses to earn free rides or discounts.
